1. Hermana Trasher

Hola de Prosper, Tejas!

Yay for surviving the first week of at-home-MTC! I am officially a missionary! I was set apart last Tuesday and I've just been working on my training from home. If it weren't for Covid, I would be down in Mexico City at the Missionary Training Center (MTC) but for now, I am doing it all over zoom with a cozy desk set up in our guest room. Sometimes it feels like a bummer that I can't be in person, but I've actually found lots of blessings from being online too (mostly being able to use Google translate).

My district (the group I have all my classes with) is incredible! Everybody has strong testimonies and it has been fun to get to know everybody. We are way close already and I feel like I've known them forever. Even more incredible is my companion, Hermana Stokes. You know that feeling when you meet someone for the first time but it feels like you've met them before and things just click? Yeah, she's that kind of person for me. We are bad at staying on topic sometimes and we end up laughing so hard we cry, but it's all good because she's keeping me sane.

My day starts at 6:30 am with lights out at 10:30 pm. My schedule is split into two classes for 3-ish hours each (usually with a workshop in between) where I learn some Spanish and a lot about how to be a missionary. Throw in personal study, companion study, exercise, language study, devotionals, and more and you get one busy Hermana. My teachers are saints for dealing with the white kids butchering their language. They are in Mexico City and English is their second language so sometimes there's a small language barrier between us. Turns out the sound "th" doesn't exist in Spanish, so I will forever be called Hermana Trasher by the native speakers haha. Internet connection issues also make for a myriad of disasters (shout out Elder Weaver for figuring out how to get me on the group FaceTime). Despite not totally understanding Spanish and being on the computer, the MTC is still a fire hose spray of the Spirit to the face and I love it!

I'm super excited (with a pinch of nervousness) to keep working in the MTC! The next 18 months are gonna be an incredible experience and I'm grateful for the opportunity to share what I know to be true with other people. Remember that you're a beloved child of God and to pray whenever you're happy, sad, discouraged, and anything in between. He wants to hear you and He always listens! I hope you're all doing well, I'd love to hear from you :)

Con abrazos y amor,

Hermana Thrasher
