23: I Won't Crap Out

Image
I have seen so many miracles in just a week. We are getting so many referrals for people to teach from Facebook, and they actually answer! We say hi to people in the street and they actually make eye contact!     My super big news is we found these 5 new people to teach, but then only one could make it to the next lesson. Luckily, she brought her 2 friends and we taught them too. So now we have 7 new people to teach!      We do lots of walking and since it's summer we are sweating all the time and being eaten by mosquitoes. Don't forget the shoe tan lines haha. I love walking at the end of the day and seeing everybody out with their families at the big plazas or getting ice cream. The weather cools down at about 8pm and everybody comes out to socialize.      Here is my spanish update: I know spanish, but not Argentinian. This is not spanish. With all the sh sounds and dropping random s's out of words and slang, the language is coming slowly. But i...

22. One-Eyed Deer

Hola de Venado Tuerto!     Y'all I am totally in Argentina right now. My last week in Oregon was full of goodbyes and hugs and tears, which was hard. I really did love Eagle Point.      On Wednesday at 2:30pm I got on a van up to Eugene where I stayed until 2:30am to catch my first flight! I had a layover in Seattle then another one in Atlanta and then I was finally off to Buenos Aires! It was really fun to meet up with other missionaries, I think there were about 50 on my flight to Buenos Aires.      From Buenos Aires to the Rosario mission home was a 5 hour bus ride which was both boring and nerve wracking. I ended up arriving at 3pm on Friday so it was about 48 hours of travel total. But then I got to meet my Mission President and his wife!! They were so kind and were excited to see the missionaries so they made me feel at home.      I got my assignment and headed out the next day! Me and my Argentine companion, Hermana Martinez,...

21. All The Dogs

Wow, this week was one of my favorites! So many random stories to share this week.      We visited a woman in the ward who fed us chocolate cake. Except the cake didn't actually work out and we were eating chocolate soup. Basically it was like someone mixed chocolate syrup, oats, and almonds together and served it. Yummy!     We had a lesson where the guy's dog just decided to use the floor as his personal bathroom right in the middle of us teaching.      We played candy poker at the Bishops house but nobody actually wanted to win and then we stole his dog. We had a sleepover with him in the blanket fort we made.      We had a service opportunity to help an old Finnish couple pack up their house and my job was books. I don't speak Finnish by any means, but I could tell that every single book was a cheesy romance novel haha. Plus they had a whole entire sauna room!     Our Bishop's daughter used her Carhartt discount to get...

20. Memory Loss

Every time I sit down to write a weekly email I forget everything I have ever done. So let's try to remember some highlights together.      Lessons this week were very interesting to say the least. One guy who has been baptized for a year asked us who God was... I think he may have been joking but I'm not sure. We visited an ANCIENT lady who had a full mustache. Very sweet lady, very thick mustache. In a different lesson, the 11 year old prayed and thanked God especially for my companion teaching the whole lesson when it was definitely me teaching (I'm not actually mad about that one, it was just hilarious). The members around here have started feeding us more, which is great for our budget, but I have eaten some very interesting things. Maybe that's just prep for Argentina.      In other news, we had a zone conference and it was so fun to see all my friends again! Our mission president taught us about what he considers to be the 4 cornerstones of faith: pr...

19. The Scooby-Doo Squad

This week was so busy and really fun! We worked really hard to set up lots of appointments and meet some people we haven't had the chance to meet yet. We also had a blast doing tons of different services. Plus Halloween was a party, but you'll hear more about that later.      One of my favorite services was out on the Ogle's land... if that sounds familiar, you are probably friends with me on Facebook. We got to go help feed and brush out their 4 horses in the evening, which was so fun! I haven't been around horses in a while and getting to do some chores with them was refreshingly therapeutic. Plus the land was gorgeous and the weather was kind of moody, so the ambience was stellar. Along with the horses, we met about 17 goats. My favorite one was a BIG guy named Wrangler, but he was too shy to come say hi :((     We visited our pal Kat who has a SUPER strong desire to be baptized, but is struggling to quit smoking. She wants to quit by Thanksgiving so she can ...
