27: Fiestas Y Aventuras

Image
Okay I know yall are excited for this email. I just sent one 2 days ago, but hopefully this will put us back on the Monday email routine. So get ready because this is the one where I get to tell you all about Argentine Christmas.      The first festivity of the week was an amazing zone conference and Christmas dinner with my zone and the neighboring zone. There were about 30 missionaries there and it was so fun! We had matching skirts with the sisters, did a talent show, I played basketball for the first time since high school with all the Elders, had a white elephant, and (most importantly) learned a lot about how to be better missionaries.      The next day was Christmas Eve! We got permission from our mission president to go spend the night with the closest companionship of sisters who live 2 hours away. So we packed up and headed out. There, we got to have a big asada with other missionaries and stay up until 12 am to see all the fireworks. It was so ho...

Merry Christmas!     I hope yall are safe and warm and fully enjoying this time with your family and friends! I hope you're not reading this email on Christmas, and if you are, put down your phone and watch Polar Express.       For me, it doesn't really feel too much like Christmas. Maybe it's because it's 90⁰ and muggy, maybe it's because there are no Christmas lights, maybe it's because I haven't heard Mariah Carey on the radio. Who knows. However, I have still been part of a ton of fun Navidad Fiestas, so I'm not complaining. (All of those stories will be told next week).     This week has been good! I think my favorite part of this week was going on exchanges with Hermana Judd. And the reason for that is the experience we had with the GIFT OF TONGUES! The gift of tongues is one of those gifts talked about in the scriptures that allows people to learn and speak a foreign language. As a missionary, I am super blessed to see it working in my life...

Hola a todos!      You get a Tuesday email this week because we had a fun day with all the Sister missionaries in my mission yesterday, so today is my time to write emails!      This week was good! I had awesome Spanish studies this week that were truly mind blowing. I finally figured out how to say some of the more complex things I've been wanting to say, which is such a blessing. My head hurts so bad after every study session, but it's so worth it.      I've had some more fun this week and laughed a bit more than I have since getting here. One of the funniest things that happened was Hermana Martinez tripping so hard on the sidewalk that the button on her pants popped open. I was laughing too hard to help her and she was laughing too hard to be embarrassed.      I also tried to teach mi amigo Elder Lucero the phrase "Howdy Y'all". He is the tech specialist for the whole mission, and since I'm the tech specialist for my zone, ...

Buckle up and get ready for the weirdest week of my mission so far. I'll start with the good stuff of this week.     This week started off really well to be honest. I had a better attitude about everything and Spanish was making more sense (except the Bracco family who probably hold the world record for fastest speakers alive).      I have some new fun Argentina things to share: -Mayo really does go on everything. -There's no stop signs, it's all a big game of chicken. -We eat Milonesa all the time which is just like super flattened out chicken nuggets, and yes we put mayo on it     I think my companion doesn't like my elbows. Last week,  she pointed out how dry they were and then this week she gave me lotion and sternly told me to put it on my elbows on 2 separate occasions.     I also had one of the most touching visits with my new friend, Ilse. She's an old German woman who has lived in Argentina most of her life. She had us over for ...
