3. Ponky Pie
Welcome to the halfway email!
Really it's just half way through the MTC, but good enough. I never thought I'd say it, but this week honestly flew by. We really got into the good stuff, the heart and soul of missionary work, the life force behind the name tags: the lessons. Ok I'm exaggerating a lot, but it has been really cool to apply the Spanish we've been learning to help teach the good news of the gospel. Practicing teaching with my companion and district gets me pumped to go out and do it in real life, but then I teach a lesson to actual Spanish speakers and realize I still have a long way to go. So yeah, pray for me (especially because we are starting the no english rule pretty soon here, gulp).
My absolute favorite thing that happened all week was last Thursday. We were talking about holidays and all the Spanish vocab for them. My teacher was describing how her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving because of the food when she said, "I love the turkey and the ponky pie". When I realized she meant pumpkin pie, I started laughing SO hard I was crying. Now that I'm writing it out, it may have only been funny because of how tired I was at the time. Either way, ponky pie will now just pop in my head and it's an instant mood booster for sure.
Other highlights include the fourth of July! Our teachers surprised us with the day off on Saturday to celebrate and spend time with our families, so I had one FULL day of freedom. I got to go set up chairs, have a picnic, and watch the fireworks with my family at the park. Missionaries follow some pretty strict rules about the kind of music we listen to and the media we watch, so going to the park and hearing Post Malone music blasting through the speakers was mind blowing. Honestly, it made me realize how much I love and miss music; so if you're reading this, go jam out to some Cody Johnson or Tyler Childers for me, thanks.
Something we've been talking about a lot is how miracles still happen in our day. 2 Nephi 27:23 says, "For behold, I am God; and I am a God of miracles; and I will show unto the world that I am the same yesterday, today, and forever; and I work not among the children of men save it be according to their faith." God still performs miracles for His children, sometimes it just takes a new perspective to find them. I've seen big, stereotypical miracles in my life and mini miracles in the daily routine of a missionary. It's a miracle that I am getting Spanish with the rest of my district and it's a miracle that my companion isn't sick of me yet. We may not see a miracle every single day, but every single day is miraculous because of Jesus Christ and His Atonement. Maybe this week, try to make a list of your personal miracles; sometimes counting your blessings can make a world of difference.
Thanks to everyone who has written to me, it seriously makes my week to see y'all's words and stories. Sorry I can only respond on Wednesdays, but keep 'em coming! Let me know how you're doing and the weirdest stories from this week :)
Much love,
Hermana Thrasher
Pics!
1. If you know me, you know I love a good rainstorm and we don't get them very often here. So when one came through this week I had to open the windows and enjoy it while it lasted.
2. Had to say goodbye to my day 1, ride or die, homie g, Mikayla Egan (come visit asap)
3 & 4. Happy 4th!
5. This is the usual set up for watching The Chosen at the end of the day
