12. Moving, Moving, Moving

Hello from Eagle Point!

This week was forever long! We had transfers, so I packed up my whole life again and got on a van down to Eagle Point, Oregon. I met the other girls I share a house with and waited for my new trainee to come in. She came in super late the next day so we just got her set up and went to sleep. Her name is Sister Biehn from Corona, CA and she is super sweet, tall, and gluten intolerant haha.

Since we are whitewashing in this area (like last time), we took a lot of time to call/text people to set up lessons with them. We are struggling to get in contact with people, plus they are doing church over zoom, so we haven't gotten to meet a lot of people that way either. Basically, Sister Biehn and I have no idea what we are doing here. But we are gonna keep working hard, praying, and trusting that God put us here together for a reason!

One person here who loves to meet with us is Luis! He has autism, he is super sweet, he loves the Book of Mormon, and he is set to be baptized on September 25th! We read the scriptures with him every night and this last week we got to go help him fulfill one of his lifelong dreams: film a movie parody. It was fun to use the clapper board, teach his friends their lines, and film the action. Honestly, it was a really funny video, he put it together in about 1 hour after we finished filming. Luis has a pure soul and seeing his excitement for the gospel has been a humbling experience.

Another fun aspect of Eagle Point is that we get to do service at the pear farm owned by the church every week! We caught the last week of the harvest, so I went with my new zone of missionaries to pick some Asian Pears. They are surprisingly delicious and I ate more than my fair share while we worked.

This area is really pretty, very hilly, and the smoke here is even worse than Eugene. For the first few days I was here I did not see the sky, and I actually just found out that we are surrounded by mountains! The smoke really blanketed everything around me and made it hard to get my bearings and know where I was. As corny as it sounds, I kept thinking about how the physical smoke around me related to my spiritual life as well. At some points in our life, we are surrounded by spiritual smoke. It is hard to see where we are going, what our surroundings are and honestly it makes us pretty uncomfortable. However, as we continue to work towards increasing our faith and spiritual vision, the smoke clears a little bit at a time until one day, we look up and see blue skies. It doesn't come all at once, it takes patience, and it is frustrating. But we can all have hope that one day when we look around, we can see the beautiful life we have been given.

I miss you guys with all my heart! I have a new address, let me know if you need it!
