39: Halfway...
This week was un poco más tranquilaaaaa!!
On Tuesday, our air conditioner started smelling like smoke so we decided it was time to take a look at it. This thing is ancient, gross looking, and makes weird sounds. When we pulled out the filter, we found 3 inches of GUNK on it, so we decided to completely take it apart and deep clean it. Yall it was nasty. It had mold and spiderwebs and dust and everything an air conditioning unit should not have. I can't believe I've been breathing that air for 4 months.
And I hit 9 months! Say WHAT?? Halfway?? No way. Genuinely blows my mind that it has been that long. It feels like I was sitting in at-home MTC yesterday. To celebrate, my Uruguayan comp gave me a Reeses that one of her yankee comps gave her. I may have teared up a little eating it... I've missed them so much haha!!
Later in the week, we made the trek back up to Rosario (that's 3 weeks in a row now, in case anybody is counting). This time was for tramites. Which just means sitting in an office for 5 hours to get my photo taken. But I'm pretty glad we got it done because my tourist visa expired about a month ago..... We got to talk to people from Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Colorado! Got tons of numbers and contacts, too bad none of them are living in Venado Tuerto though.
And I had exchanges in Pergamino with my girl Hermana Koch! We had fun eating ice cream, walking for an hour to her area, and visiting about 70 million people. One family we visited was a family that got baptized last week and they were found through an ad that I made on Facebook!! It was really cool to see that direct result from the work I'm doing haha. Hna Koch is one of those people that you leave feeling like you know Christ a little better, so I loved getting to spend some time with her.
Other highlights include:
-Being followed by a pony to a house. It was a nice change from being followed by dogs. When we showed up to the house, it went up to the door and jiggled the handle until a kid gave it some bread.... that was strange.
-Having a weird sick day where we all took naps for 3 hours and miraculously felt better.
-Watching Hna Arnould try to cut our grass with a kitchen knife
-Watching Elder Gray use Raid and a lighter to kill a wasp nest on our porch
-Taught a full lesson in English to a member of the church who is learning English right now. It was my first time praying in English in 5 months.... weird.
-Being TERRIFIED by Elder Juarez's driving in Rosario... casi morí
-Giving the familia loca a soccer ball because theirs was completely wrecked
-Having a strange man in the streets tell me I should go to modeling school
-My friend that helped me buy my guitar started his mission this week!! He's headed to the Chile Osorno mission, so if any of y'all hear about an Elder Allasia down there, let me know.
-There's probably more to include here but I can't remember them
Reflecting on the last 9 months, I think my favorite part has been building my relationship with Christ. I always had a testimony of Him, His life, His death, His words, everything. But it has been amazing to have that knowledge deepened in ways I never could've imagined and feel closer to Him than ever before. I look forward to the next 9 months of loving and serving and learning and growing!!!
Con amor,
Hermana Thrasher
