47: Yeah!!
This week was rather calm compared to some weeks in the past. Our exciting news this week is that our friend Gisela committed to being baptized and chose her baptismal date yay!! Gisela is probably one of the most humble and kind people I have met on the mission.
We had a fun lesson with our friend Valeria too. She was taught 10 YEARS ago by some elders and remembers nearly everything. We were teaching her the plan of salvation, but she kind of taught us. Basically, she knew everything and told us the plan just made sense. Well.... yes it does.
We asked her how her reading of the Book of Mormon was going and she said that she loved how the Book of Mormon teaches all the same things as the Bible but in a simple, pure way. We said "Yeah!"
She said she liked to read the Book of Mormon with the Bible because she understands both of them better as she reads them together. We said "Yeah!"
We asked if she had prayed about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith being a prophet.
She said "Why would I do that??"
We said "To know if it's true!!"
She said "Well, I already know it is true!! All you gotta do is read the Book to know it's the word of God and if Joseph Smith was able to translate the word of God, he must be a prophet then, right??"
We said "Yeah!!"
She said "It's common sense, do people not believe it??"
We said "Well... no"
So basically Valeria is a pretty dang cool seƱora. Getting to meet and talk to people like her make the hard days more than worth it.
In other small joys this week:
-making a charcuterie board
-pretty flowers
-our america-obsessed friend came to church this week and just about died when she met real-life american elders
-our favorite re-activating hermana Teresa had us over for lunch and told us about how she basically street contacted this guy and got to testify of the Book of Mormon.
-giving a talk in church
-Went to lunch and the member told us that an old lady was mugged a block away last night.... then just went back to whistling and cooking while Hna Baldauf and I sat in shock
-had district council outside but the amount of mosquitos, wind, and traffic noise taught us to never try that again
-woke up at 3am to a gunfight happening outside!! Cool!!
-hit 11 months wearing the tag??????? Feels unreal.
Anyways, this email is already long enough so I'll share a little bit of a spiritual thought and let y'all go on your merry ways jaja.
In my talk yesterday, I shared my WHY for why I'm on a mission. For me, my WHY is the fact that I know this gospel is true!! I wouldn't be out here getting roasted for my spanish and getting blisters like none other if I wasn't 100% sure of that.
For me, reflecting on my testimony of the Book of Mormon and the restored church of Jesus Christ AND all the blessings I have received from baptism and living the gospel keeps me going on the not so great days.
So. What's your WHY? WHY are you here? WHY are you doing the things you are doing right now? And if you can't think of a pretty good reason.... Maybe it's time to make a change.
Love y'all. Happy 3rd week of May!

PICS!
I am actually sorry they are all selfies or dumb photos of some sort... we can't take out the phone outside or we'll definitely get robbed. If we could, I might have some cool photos hahaha.
