48: Baaa
Hola de Carcarañá!
Transfers happened and my favorite district I have ever been in came to an end, they are still in the zone though do no big deal.
So Hermana Baldauf and I got moved out to Carcarañá. We are still companions and still have our assignment, but we are just whitewashing this area. Which is funny because I have whitewashed every area I have been in. I got the drill down by now.
Carcarañá is super cute, super small, super tranquil. We were definitely moved here because of safety issues in our last area, but I'm not complaining. I love it here!! I have never felt more like I am SUPPOSED to be somewhere than I feel here.
Our first night, we went to buy some food for dinner but when we got to the cash register, we realized we both managed to forget our money. So we absolutely sprinted to the pension in our dresses and pros shoes in the dark. But we also managed to get lost on the way back and it was a whole mess.
The next day, the census was supposed to be happening in ALL of Argentina. We were supposed to stay at home until the census person came and noted our information. Well, we stayed inside for the 10 hours they requested but nobody ever came, and that was really lame.
We tried going to the church to do some work and it turns out the church had an alarm we didn't know about and the most annoying high pitched alarm went off for 20 minutes while we ran around calling the Bishop and trying to punch in the code on different keypads. Eventually the alarm turned off on its own and the police never showed up
Then we had a great miracle!! We went to visit Angel, a friend who had recently gone to church in Rosario and liked the meeting. Turns out he has been reading his Book of Mormon and downloaded the gospel library app so he could listen to general conference talks. He talked about the hard times he has had in life and how he just wants to be a good person. We told him about the Plan of Salvation and our purpose of life on earth. When we extended the invitation to be baptized, he said YES for the 18th of June!! Yay!!
Right after that, we went to an ice cream shop to celebrate and ended up getting free ice cream because the worker is an inactive member :)
One other cool friend from this week was Eric who we had our first lesson with. He has a lot of "knowledge" about the church, but almost all of it is wrong. Anything from thinking that we are polygamists to confusing the stories of Joseph Smith and Moses. But he's a good guy, really willing to learn!!
Other than that, I don't have a lot more to say. I know this email is already long so I'll just share with y'all one last thing.
Here in Carcarañá, there are a ton of sheep. Which is funny because it's my first time seeing sheep in Argentina. I even met a lamb that acted like a guard dog and angrily baa'd at us until we walked away.
But seeing all these sheep has made me think a lot more about shepherds, specifically our Good Shepherd. Everytime I see one, I think about all the scriptures that talk about us being like sheep, and I think about the 99 sheep being left behind to find the 1.
And every time I see a little sheep I am grateful for my Savior who comes and finds me when I have gone down some rocky road and gotten myself lost. I'm grateful for the Shepherd who loves his flock and I think about D&C 6:33
"Therefore, fear not, little flock; do good; let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail."
Maybe I'll do a 6-week long study of the symbolism of sheep in the scriptures, we'll see.
Love y'all! Hope you have a great week and that y'all listen to some Flatland Cavalry for me today.
Hermana Thrasher
