59: Change Is Really, Really Hard
Sometimes I forget I'm in Argentina and I just think I'm in a really weird part of the US. Then I remember what the globe looks like and where Argentina is on that globe.
This week I got to experience so many things that made me fall in love with my mission all over again.
I love the members in Carcaraña. We had asado with Gilda and her family, fancy desserts with the Girellos, we played uno with so many fun families and laughed until we cried, we got to see so many people at church who don't usually come, and even ate some pizza with a slightly tipsy very inactive member that we love a lot. The slightly tipsy member asked us what we wanted to drink and we said coke and she was worried that we would be breaking the word of wisdom by doing that. She said "Me va a castigar Dios che!!", which now that I'm reading it, it's only funny in spanish.
I also love our friends so much. Paulina is getting baptized in 2 weeks!! Walter just accepted a date to be baptized on the 10th of September in one of the most powerful lessons and prayers I have been in. I know we get to teach people and they like to say we change their lives, but the truth is they change me in so many more ways.
Carcarañá has changed me as a person. It's here that I learned the meaning of charity, the true worth of discipline, and the beauty of faith. I love this pueblito with my whole being. Words can't describe how I can care so much about a place.
So y'all can imagine how crushed I was to hear that I am leaving. Tomorrow I am packing my bags and heading to a new city. 3 months was not long enough, but I don't think 18 months would be enough with people I love so much. Today I have to say lots of goodbyes and chaus. And I am starting to tear up just thinking about it.
So change is really hard. As I've been feeling all the anxiety that comes with change, my favorite verse came to mind "Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not" D&C 6:36. I am on my mission to learn how to follow the will of the Lord, no matter where it takes me. I know people in my new area need me and I am sure I need them too.
Sending lots of love!!
